If you are a national HOG life member, and you do not want to renew in January please let either myself or the girls at the shop know. I hope to see more members at the next meeting. If you have any questions, please feel free to give me a call at home, or leave me a message in my box at the shop.

Ick. Winter is on us hard. Last month we put the bikes up for the year. Now, what do I have to preach about? Well, we all still have to drive, don't we, so I guess I'll have a rant about winter driving.
First thing, SLOW DOWN! Just because you have a four wheel drive doesn't mean you can stop or corner any better. Anti-lock brakes will get you rear ended in a hurry, and traction control won't help if your to fast in a corner. Besides, there's always the big lug like me in the old truck, that has none of those fancy gadgets, who's rig will get away and take you out in the process. Be careful!
Second, have you checked your survival gear in the last couple of years? Did you take it out to make more room for the stuff you bought at the big sale? Did you ever have a survival kit to begin with? If you live and work in Fairbanks and think North Pole is a long drive you might get away without one. If you go much farther you need an emergency survival pack in you car. Blankets, snacks, fire starter, bunny boots, knife, cell phone, and what ever else you think might make you comfortable till help arrives.
Finally, Ladies, (you know who you are) some of you scare me to death. Forty below and I see you at the mall in business clothes. No boots, hose, fashionable coat and so on. I can only hope you've got some insulated pants, parka, and Sorel's real close. I wouldn't want to walk fifty yards dressed like that in Fairbanks cold. You could be seriously injured if you have a break down in town if you don't have arctic gear. I wouldn't want to think about what would happen if you were on your way to Nenana. Be smart and safe. I don't like get well cards and I really hate funerals for friends.
Ol' Joe, well he never saw anything like what we have for weather. Ol' Rich says, Think about what can go wrong and be ready. I want to see everybody for the Chatanika run 2001!

Come one come all. The HOG, first annual, Pajama / Slumber Party will
be introduced November 17th, for all those daring enough to have a great
time. We will be having a pajama contest for men and women. Catagories will
be; The Home-lyiest, The Sexiest, and The most Debonair. Great games and
dancing will fill an evening of something new to talk about. The place will
be the Grange Hall in North Pole. The Time, 7pm Friday night, till noon
on Saturday. The necessary items to bring will be a deseart of personal
choice. A sleeping bag and pillow for those wanting to be part of the all-nighter's.
Of course, BYOB will apply. Sodas and coffee will be provided. We will be
asking a $5.00 donation to cover the cost of the hall.
So log it in your date books to have a great time.
Winter is upon us, and we have to store the bikes. Looking for indoor recreation? Can't shoot pool? Two left feet, can't dance, can't bowl? Aggressive tendencies need an outlet? There are pistol leagues forming for the winter! Yes, winter shooting in the new indoor range, across from Fish and Game on College Road. I've been in the range and it's really nice. Here comes the hook. I need three to five pistolaros to fill out a team. The cost would be ten dollars per meet plus targets and ammunition. Dates and times have not been set yet. The management is trying to see if there will be enough interest. I'm interested. If you are give me a call at 488-1728 or E-mail to the link below.

MOTORCLOTHES DEPT.:
It's that time of year again and instead of keeping the elves busy making
Christmas toys for the kid's, Jessie and Connie have been busy stocking
the shelves with Harley-Davidson items for the family. We have listed a
few of the new unique items:
-Picture Frames -Silk Men's Shirts
-New Cards -Lava Lamps
-New Suede Leather Set (mns) -Suspenders
-Woman's Leather Purses -Logo Embroidered Sweatshirts
-Jewelry -Stylish "Candy" Sunglasses (colorful)
If you hang a stocking from the fireplace for that family pet, we now have Harley-Davidson leashes and collars for that "spoiled" animal. I had to get that 27" incher, with studs for Bozo.
Don't forget that the girls are still taking orders for the "Loony
Tunes" HOG Christmas t-shirts. They are Long-Sleeve this year and she
only has a few sizes left. They will be available at the Hog Christmas party,
or earlier, at the shop.
S-XL $23.00
XXL-3XL $25.00
To get ready for the slumber party on November 17th , Jessie and Connie have pulled out some pajama's (both silk and flannel) for your sleeping enjoyment. Come in before they all run out.
The October LOH meeting was held on the 12th. Even though only 4 ladies showed up, it let us see the fun monthly meetings can be. It also showed us how much we can get done as a whole.
October 26 7:00, help decorate the McGhee's house for the Halloween costume party to be held on Friday the 27 starting at 7:00. 1152 North Star Drive North Pole. 490-0375. Should be fun and entertaining for the whole family.
Our long awaited "Hair Daze" with our very own Maria Dunham at Team Cutters will be combined with the next LOH Meeting. This will take place November 2nd, 7:00 at Team Cutters on the corner of Airport Way and Market Street. I want to encourage all the Ladies who are involved in any way with HOG to attend this fun and informative get together. Bring your idea's of what you would like to see LOH doing this next year.
At our monthly membership meetings we are going to start having a birthday cake to celebrate the birthdays of that month. Hoping of course that we can take turns making the cake.
The HOG group has done a fine job through the years supporting outside agency's in need. We have decided to bring some of the benefits back to the members. So you will find a sign up sheet at the shop for the Hospitality Committee. This committee will do kind and thoughtful things for members who may be going through a personal hardship or might just need to know there are friends around.
Lets everyone bring a desert to share to the Pajama party. If you feel bold enough you can enter your desert in the silent contest for the tastiest desert brought.
Mark your calendars for Bowling for Kids sake being held this year on February 24 at the Fort Wainwright Bowling ally. More to be announced on this one.

Kathleen McGhee
Hello Riders,
I believe we had a good summer this year. I know I did. Personally, I added
another 11 thousand miles on the scooter, not to mention, my new wife, Kathleen,
and 5 kids. I have been truly blessed. Winning the City Council election
was an added benefit I hope to thoroughly enjoy. But now, that this year
as your Road Captain is coming to a close, I have decided to enter my name
as your next HOG Director. I have a lot of exciting new ideas I would like
to bring into the club and a desire to see more of the new members become
active voices and motivators for our future activities. I would like to
note that the the Harley Owners Group is a family orientated riding club,
and with that, would like to see more family members involved in events.
I truly believe this riding group belongs to its members. It is the member's
that work so hard to put on great events and some of this town's biggest
fund raisers for local non-profit and charitable institutions. The members
have the power to make this the best Harley Owners Group in the state, and
to this date, have a reputation throughout this country for doing just that.
With your help, I would like to carry on that tradition and do my part to
make it even better for the members. I would like to hear from you for your
support and ideas for our Harley Owners Group. Please feel free to stop
by the shop and visit.
Thanks for a great year, and all the help from the Road Captains Team, for making this a good riding summer. Road Captains, Bob Spears, Mike Reardean, Donny Woods, Walt Schader, Rich Barlow, Darrel Needham, not to forget the members who stood up and helped when needed.
Thank you all So Much
Thomas McGhee
Well boys and girls it is that time of the month again when I get to report in. This time I have been traveling a bit, put in 7000+ so far and still going. As I mentioned last month, I left North Pole in the rain. And that rain chased me all the way to Seattle. Was a great ride though, but by the time I made it to Seattle, my bike and trailer were no longer black, but gray. Actually had no problems in Canada. By the time I made it to Snake HD, I had worn out a rear tire, but nothing to get uptight about. The ride was wonderful through. Washington east and then south to Oregon, over to Idaho and down a lonely stretch of road in Nevada. I camped all the way and when I got to Zion NP, I got fed up with folks. That campground was the noisiest place I had ever been in. Folks did not know what 10 PM quite time was. Well it started getting a little warm, from the 70's in Washington and Oregon to the 80's and 90's in Idaho, Nevada and Utah, still that was not too bad yet. Then I made Arizona and the summer seemed to hit me all at once. The temperatures went up from 100 to 107 degrees. I thought I was going to melt, and that bagger pulling a trailer was running hot. I think Sydney, my bird, was ready to head back to Alaska. I even had thoughts of heading north myself. But I struggled south, with lots of water and rode through some of the greatest back roads I have ever been on.
I made Tucson, then on to Serria Vista, and hooked up with Dave Johnson and Amber, Fred and Leena Cox, Glen and Lisa, and had a chance to talk to Ebe and Connie. Well, the temperature. was high but Fred and Leena, Sydney and I headed for the New Mexico State HOG Rally in Roswell. The first day was great. We did not make much headway because we hit a road that took us 4 hours to go 80 miles. The switchbacks were so tight you could see your taillights as you went around the turns. Several times I found myself in the wrong lane, and when the sign said 10 MPH it meant 10 MPH. It was great. The next day started out a little windy could hardly hold the bikes on the road. Then came the rain and then the temp. dropped to 39 degrees. We limped into Roswell and found out it was the first HOG Rally in NM in 10 years and they had a few problems, but nothing that could not be over come. Only thing they did not have a Farthest Rider award so, Hoppy, I did not get a new trophy. We did get to see the Hardly Angels and those ladies were down right good. Even the 11 year old gal was impressive. That lady drill team was great. I think they could out ride most folks. Well the next day it was time to head back to AZ and guess what, it was 37 degrees and raining. I was accused by a lot of folks of bringing Alaska weather with me. Fred had to go out and buy some winter clothes to get home in. They had sold all the winter clothes they had. Fred even bought long johns, can you believe it. We made it back to Serria Vista safely but cold.
By the way, my bagger gave me another fit. Had to put a new starter on in Roswell. I think I have just about put on everything new, so the bike should be in good shape now. Even got great gasoline mileage after George worked on it in Fairbanks, but he did not know what he did to make it get such wonderful gas mileage. Now George, you got a problem.
I weathered out the storms that came through AZ, NM and TX although I got into a little rain, snow and a massive hail and wind storm. I laid up in Texas for a while but will be heading back north for a month or so. That means I will see you guys at least once more before I head back to "perpetual summer".
God Bless,
Chicken Joe
