I don't have much to say this month, as I am still trying
to sort things, and I have not had a chance to meet with all of the chapter
officers yet. As soon as I have a chance to meet with everyone, I will have
more to write.
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new members, and invite
them to come to our March meeting. As a matter of fact, if you are new to
the chapter and have not been able to attend a meeting, come on out and
find out what the chapter is all about. You will meet a group of individuals
who have the same enthusiasm for Harley's as you do. See you on the tenth
at the Sunset Inn. If you are new and plan to attend, give me a call so
I can look for you at the meeting. If you have any questions about meetings
or functions, please don't hesitate to give me a call. My number is above.
Jim
It's that time again when riding season is just around the bend. I know we all can't wait. Don't forget the Bentley Mall Bike Show is April 15 & 16. We will have more information available at the next meeting. Don't miss it!
We will have to say goodbye to some of our members. Rich
and Gayle Moore. Rich has orders to Germany for 3 years. Rich and Gayle
weren't with us long, but they made a great impact on us all. We wish them
the best and look forward to seeing them again.
We also want to give our best wishes to Glen and Lissa Naquin. They have
a great opportunity ahead of them. We will miss you and all you have done
for the club. We send you our best wishes. A huge hole will be left with
your leaving but I believe we are in good hands with Jim Samuelson. Congratulations
and thanks to Jim for taking on the role of Director for our chapter once
again.
I'll do my best to answer questions or concerns. We still need volunteers
for the bike show to help with setting up and trailing bikes. If anyone
is interested in helping, please let me know. If anyone has a suggestion
or ideas on rides they would like to do this summer, please let one of the
board members be aware of it.

First, I would like to welcome our newest members to our
chapter: Joan Fisher, Michael Franklin, Dawn & Nyles Green, Carl Higgins,
Sheldon & Shawn Jones, Joe McGuire, Mike Motsko, Richard Mulholand,
Brian Phillips, Richard Westrick, Joseph Yocum. I hope we get a chance to
meet each of you. Welcome.
I would also, like to welcome Jim Samuelson back as Chapter Director.
It was really great to see such a great turn out for Gayle & Rich Moore's going away party. It was a lot of fun. Gayle & Rich thought it was really great that so many of us came out. They will be greatly missed.
This month I will be sending out post cards notifying members when they are close to renewal. I will still put the list of names here in the Swine-line, but for those who don't get a chance to look at it, or their Swine-line seems not to reach them, this will be another avenue of notice. Please remember, make sure to check the expiration dates on your national H.O.G. membership. Once your national membership expires, so does your chapter membership. There will also be changes to when you renew your chapter membership. Please make sure to have your card with you when you renew. We need to get your membership number and expiration date on the renewal forms, along with your signature. I have discovered a lot of our members are not registered with H.O.G. chapter membership. Main reasons being, we don't have your membership number and current expiration date. I would really like to be able to get all our members registered, If your not registered you do not qualify for the 10% discount at the shop. So, when you renew, either at the shop, with myself, or our treasurer, please have your card handy. If you have a question as to when you will need to renew, I will have a list of members, and expiration dates, posted at the shop. You can also ask the girls at the shop, or feel free to give me a call at home.
The following memberships are due to expire: Randy Bostrom, Stan Brojakowski, Dan Coffey, Thomas Cox, Larry Dewey, Evelyn & Mike Donovan, George Doty, Charles Grandy, Eric & Jeanie Henry, Cal Hepburn, Debbie Hoglan, Wanda Kaltschnee, Joe Knabe, Michael Koke, David & Vickie Larsen, Joe Losinski, Chuck & Constance Marshall, Teresa Messina, Randall Miller, John Perry, Joe Procell, Kurt Schumacker, David Tate, James Todhunter, Becky Todhunter, John Turner.
Hope to see you at the meeting. Evelyn Wood
Ah, the steady drip, drip, drip that turns a young mans desire to.... Well most of us are beyond that point and are thinking motorcycles. Well it will soon be time to park the old truck that's served so well over winter and uncover the bike. Need to get the hog cleaned up and ready for spring. Out comes the wax and chrome polish. Got to get it shined up and ready for the road. What does this have to do with safety? Good point. While your bonding with your baby after a long winter, be looking for more than the dirt that was left when you put it up last fall. How is the tread on that rear tire, a bit thin? Are the bolts on the forward sets tight? How about those spark plugs? Did I put new ones in last fall? In general, take a long slow look and make sure everything is tight and the expendable (tires, cables, rubber bushings, etc) are in good shape. If not, or your not quite positive, call Clark, and get it in now so everyone will be happy when the roads get dry.
Speaking of dry roads, spring brings some hazards that
we didn't have last fall, so everyone needs to be aware. Ice on bridges
and on the road just off the bridges. It's common for the water on a bridge
to be carried off by tires and laid down on some very cold asphalt, forming
ice. I've seen a couple of bad wrecks because of that, coming off the North
Pole flood control. The roads on the north side of the hills can have patches
of ice on them long after everything else is dry. Intersections have a lot
of gravel left over, making breaking and cornering touchy. Finally, people
in cars are not used to bikes being out and are even less likely to see
you. Take an extra dollar and pay attention.
And Ol' Joe says, It's not the loose gravel that you know about that will
hurt you, it's the loose gravel you don't know about that will bite you.

Clear your schedule! The annual Big Brothers / Big Sisters bowling for kids' sake event will be held Saturday, February 26th, at the Nugget Lanes on Fort Wainwright. It will run from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. If you haven't attended this function in the past, you may want to give it a try. It's for a good cause and a lot of fun to boot.
Finished installing the CD in the Bagger, along with a new battery, and installed a throttle control (with the help of a friend) in Sherry's Dyna. Time for polish, wax, and above freezing days.
We have a small lift for the bikes, used for cleaning and
other maintenance tasks. First time I attempted to elevate Sherry's Dyna,
I realized it would not work, since the oil pan extends below the frame.
After a bit of research I found out Harley makes an adapter to correct the
problem. Cost, about $25.00

Sales/Bikes:
Well, as most of us know, the fever to ride has picked up a few degrees, and it's just going to get worst before relief comes! I already had to disappoint some people that were expecting there to be some available bikes this spring. I do have some 1200 Sportsters still available, but am sold out at this point for all the Big Twins on order. If you have any friends or know someone that is thinking about getting a Harley for the summer, please tell them to see me ASAP so I can get them in my book, in case we receive any extra bikes this spring, or I get some people backing out of the deal.
Service:
Clark is still offering free pickup and delivery for the
month of March. Also, check with him on what special discounts he is having
for the month.
Well, boys & girls it is that time of the month again to let you know what's been happening on the road. I made it back to Fairbanks in January but when I walked outside the airport and got snow on my boots, I thought about turning around and getting back on the airplane going south. I made it to Leah Tavens place and had to dig 46" of snow away from the door to get in. I told the cab driver not to leave until I got in, but after digging all that snow from the steps I figured it was probably time to head south. Well, threw caution to the wind and stayed the four days I had planned, and ship my '95 Ultra back to Texas. I must admit, I do not miss the winters in Fairbanks/North Pole. I got my '95 bike down here, found the frame was not bent, so now I'm building a Road King.
I got back to Arizona, glad to be in the warmth of the dessert. Made my way to visit Connie and Ebe. They said to tell everyone, Hi! I rode back to Texas and got caught in rain and more rain and more rain. I laid up in San Antonio for a couple of days before I headed to Corpus Christi and Padre Island. Well I was preparing to head to Beaumont when I broke down for the 5th time. I am really getting a little tired of this. But I will throw in a commercial for HOG Road Service. It does work, at least in the lower 48. I got towed back to the Harley Shop in Corpus Christi and the shop got me on the road in less than an hour. Really great folks down there. I hope I don't have to use the HOG Road Service ever again.
I did make it back to Beaumont and now preparing to head to Daytona Bike Week. Then down to the Florida Keys, since I have never been there. Will enjoy checking it out. After Daytona and the Keys, I will be heading for the Louisiana HOG Rally, the end of March. If any of you folks are headed for Daytona Bike Week, drop me an email and I will give you my cell-phone # and we can meet up there.
For now you guys have a great March, and I hope by the time you get the next Swine Line you are "On the Road" with me.
God Bless
Chicken Joe
