| Historian |
This month's newsletter is going to be short and sweet. I just want to drop a few reminders of upcoming events. Bill and Sherry are heading south for a couple of months, so you probably won't see another newsletter until September, unless we have to publish an emergency one.
But first, I would like to welcome all of the new members. We are really growing. The chapter is almost double the size as when I joined four years ago. It is really nice to see all of the new faces at chapter events. This is no slight of the older members. It's just nice to see the chapter grow.
I want to thank all of the Chapter's Charter Members who came out in
the rain to celebrate the Chapter's tenth anniversary. Thanks Al and Sandy,
Rob and Arlene, Mike and Debbie, and Marty. I also want to thank the rest
of the members who came out to show their appreciation to these individuals.
Up Coming Events
By the time you receive this, the State Rally will probably be history. I am sure everyone will have had a great time. If you were unable to make it, next year it is in Fairbanks.
There may be a run to Tok for the Fourth of July parade. We will post fliers at the Outpost if it goes off, so keep your eyes peeled.
July 23 is the HOG vs. Pigs softball game at Newby Field, in North Pole. Come on out and play, or root us on and have some refreshments and FUN.
July 22 is the Golden Days Parade and HOG Bike Raffle. See you at the parade or the Outpost. Hoppy and Charlie Myres are in charge of providing a float for the parade. Hoppy tells me they need some volunteers for float decoration's and to sell raffle tickets to the crowd. If you can help out, let Hoppy or Charlie know.
Summer riding is in full swing. It's been great seeing so many women on
the road.
Thank you, everyone, for the support and contributions with the breakfast before the Sobriety run. All proceeds went to the Fairbanks Rescue Mission. The turnout was great.
The Tuesday night ride has gotten a little more interest from riders, the more the better.
If any of you ladies are interested in riding on the Golden Days float, let me or our beloved Hoppy know.
By the time you see this in print, the rally will have taken place and,
hopefully, a good time was had by all. Also, the LOH basic bike maintenance
class has taken place. Some of the ladies now know what is minor up keep
and what should be turned over to the professionals at the shop. It's the
difference between Band-Aids and stitches.
Until next time. . .
Be free,
Kathy
Just a short one this month. With the arrival of summer, I've noticed a
rapid deterioration in peoples' driving habits. There are more teenagers
on the road, moms with SUV's full of kids, and cell phone rangers. None
of whom are really paying attention to the world outside there own windshield.
So the bottom line is YOU have to be more alert (we need a lot more lerts).
Intersections, driveways, parking lots, sharp curves, and stoplights are
just a few of the hazardous places you're going to run across. You need
to be thinking about your riding and not the ride. I know that can be a
problem on a nice evening, but you need to pay attention to stay alive.
Ol' Joe says, "If you just ride as if nobody can see you, you'll be all right."

Flash from the Road Captains,
The interest and enthuasim continually amaze me from our HOG members. These people put on a great parade for the City of North Pole. About forty-two bikes showed up and, even though we had a long wait ("my fault"), the spirits remained high. The performance was a class act by some pretty impressive bikes. Truly, thank you all for your support for our common cause.
This newsletter has to cover two months, so I have to remind every one
of the July 8th, 2nd highway cleanup, followed by The Road Captains famous
cookout. Watch the HOG corner for details.
Thanks Joe, Donny, Mike, and all those that helped you pull off number one.
I hope we can top the special ride you pulled off last year.
The State Rally will have passed by the time you read this, so I hope everyone had a good ride and a trip full of treasures to keep forever. Keep your eyes on the activity schedule, so you don't miss out on anything. Keep the bikes running clean and, most of all, enjoy yourself.
Thomas
And the Road Captains
As you may have noticed, this newsletter is attempting to cover two months.
Since everyone is geared to a one-month schedule, I'm sure there are items
that have slipped through the cracks (takes time to change sprockets).
You may wish to stop occasionally at the Outpost, or catch the Chapter Meeting
for any additions or updates to the event's schedule.
As everyone hopefully is aware, this is your newsletter. Any member that would like to submit an article for publication is welcome to do so. Articles for submission need to be placed in my drop at the Outpost or e-mailed to the address below no later than the 20th of the month.
As always, if there is a problem or you wish to change the way you receive your copy of The Swine-Line, call 458-7116 in the evening or e-mail: fbkhog@eagle.ptialaska.net
Have a great July, and we will see you in August.
Bi11 & Sherry
We are planning a big photo shoot on Saturday, July 15th, at the Outpost. I'll be your "amateur" photographer on duty. We'll be taking individual photos of you and your family with your Harley. If you don't have any family or friends, you will probably be able to round up a volunteer or two from the parking lot! We'll be taking pictures from 11am to 1pm. At 1p.m., I want to take a group photo of ALL Hog members. I hope that as many of you as possible can make it. This will be quite the photo! I will no doubt be taking this one from across the street in order to get everyone in!
LET'S SEE HOW MANY HOGS WE CAN GET POSING IN FRONT OF THE SHOP!
After the HOG group photo, Carrie and myself will be putting on our wash
mitts and attacking all the dirty Harley's we can. So plan for an afternoon
of hanging out with friends and having fun!
Sales:
The annual Dealer Show will be the end of July in Denver this year.
That's when the Motor Company unveils the new model for the upcoming 2001
year and any other surprises. We should have the 2001 Bike catalogs in
around mid-August.
The end of the 2000 model year is July 31st, with the 2001 bikes starting
to be delivered as early as mid-July.
Motorclothes:
If you haven't got the Ken 2 or Barbie 4, make sure you come down soon before we sell out. Also, Barbie has a 1st Harley Fat Boy available now with a limited amount on hand.
New motorclothes arrivals are coming in monthly for the summer. Make sure you browse around or ask one of the ladies up front what is new.
People have been asking about the large H.O.G. patch (which we are out of right now). They are on back order, so please keep checking with the girls. Hopefully, they will be here before the snow flies.
For those customers that have outdoor patio furniture (Lucky Pigs), come check out our new hard plastic cups and mugs. They can be used for ice tea, lemonade, or whatever you drink on those "Hot Alaska Summer" days.
For everyone going to Sturgis, make sure you have your rain gear and all your other goodies for traveling ready. I have a few new rain suits in some bright colors. One sells as a set and the other sells in individual pieces.
Have a great time and be Safe, but get Rowdy for all of us left behind, working hard at the shop.
Parts:
For the July 15th Sale Day (Thomas's Birthday), I will be offering 20% on all Genuine Harley-Davidson Parts and Accessories in stock only. All after-market parts and accessories will be normal price, and sorry, no discount on special orders.
Another reminder to order any of those accessories that you need to "spiff-up"
your bike this summer before they are backordered into the winter season.
