Hey Gang. What an adventure! If you ever wanted to do a Caribbean cruise, the "Hogs on the High Seas" is the one to do. It was all the flavor of a rally in five different countries and then some. Royal Caribbean's "Voyager of the Seas" was the most beautiful ship I have ever seen. The Alaska gang came away with some pretty good loot and quite a few long lasting memories. The plans are already done for next year and there are two options to cruise: Alaska and Caribbean hmmm wonder which one Alaskans would choose? Those of us that went will have pictures to drool over at the Christmas party, which is just down the road. Cajun Joe and Rhonda stayed in the south to soak up some more sunshine, so they will have even more tales to tell. We are also approaching the winter solstice and will start to gain light soon! Yahoo!!! That is always my halfway mark to riding again. Don't let the winter doldrums get you down. Jimmy will be planning some chapter fun so stay tuned and come out and join us in some winter activities. Happy Holidays to each and every one of you. Hope to see you at the meetings. Raven

I would like to thank everyone who came to the HOG Halloween Bingo. It was a great turnout with about 50-60 people. Lots of neat costumes too. We raised a total of $1222.00 with the dinner, brown bag auction, bingo and pull-tabs. You are all awesome and the seniors will love you all forever. Mark B got the best auction bag at the end and we all know Charlene will love it but not as much as Mark. Ha-ha. I was asked by a lot of people after-wards when we could have Bingo again. That will be up to Jimmy to decide. Nancy Barlow got the scariest costume, Steve Schmitz the most ridiculous, Vicki Larson the Unknown, Reese and Joyce Cattrell the most elaborate, Mark Boberick and Charlene the most imaginative. For the kids it was BJ Deal the best and Tyler Miller (Steve S son) for the funniest. Congratulations to all!
Joe, myself, Villa's, and a lot of other HOG members are heading for the" HOG On The High Seas" cruise this Thursday. I'm so excited and I know we are going to have lots of fun.
Don't forget about the Sale on Dec. 9 at the Outpost. John will have great sales, food and new items. Great time to do your Christmas shopping. It will be from 6-8:30. Maybe John will even give away something, but you will have to be there to find out and qualify.
The Christmas party is coming up real soon so get your tickets at the Outpost for $20 each. I have lots of prizes to give away too. Last year was a lot of fun and the food was great. The rooms are available for a great price of $49, $59, and I think $119 for the suite. So book your room soon.
I had a surprise Retirement party for Joe at Elf's Den on October 23 and about 60 people showed up. BOY! Was Joe ever surprised and lost for words. We all had a great time. Thanks to all who attended and made his day very special.
See you all in December, Rhonda Procell

Please help us to update the chapter's membership roster. All local members must be a member of national H.O.G. before joining the local H.O.G. chapter. If you joined the local H.O.G chapter by completing an application at the Shop, but did not become a national H.O.G member first you need to do that. You can become a National member by going to the Shop or on-line at http://www.hog.com. If you have questions please contact Lori Price or Aleshia Purcell at the Outpost. If you have different information please let us know.

Another year comes to a close and I've got my work assignments for the New Year. I will be taking over the Assistant Directors duties, as well as retaining the Safety Officers job. Then I've been taped for Rally Secretary & Web Master. All the while being the Alaska reporter for the Thunderpressâ and administrator of a motorcycle Internet bulletin board. Somebody said something to me recently to the effect of "If you need something done, ask a busy man". Now if I could just figure out a way to make all this pay .
I'll just be expanding "Ridin' with Rich" to
cover everything I'm involved with as a one stop information point. Hopefully
that will make Cindy's job a little easier and give you folks a good news
and information column.
Rally News: The Website: www.akstatehogrally.com/ up and running. I am updating it frequently as information comes in. Right now most of what I have posted will be of more interest to those who will be coming in from out of town. I will let every body know when we start taking registrations. Expect that some time late in January or early in February. Just a reminder here if you intend to bring a guest who is not a H.O.G. member get them signed up as an associate member so they can receive all the goodies that go with rally registration. If you just register your friend as a guest they pay the full fare but they don't receive a t-shirt or any of the other bennies.
Change hats; as I start seeing our members this winter I'm going to be asking what we need to be doing to get you out riding this summer. I know many of you are up to your ears in work and other commitments during the summer but we all need to take a brake and de-stress and getting out for a ride and fellowship with other riders is an excellent way to do it. Let me know what you need and we'll work on it. I see too many bikes coming up for sale with very few miles on them. Start making plans now to get out and ride with us this summer.
Change hats (again, good thing
I've got a bunch of hats); we all need to be fire aware this time of year.
Alaska has one of the highest rates of residential fires in the country
primarily because we have more risk factors than residences in other parts
of the country. Woodstoves and fireplaces need to be maintained and the
flues keep clean. With the price of oil going through the roof everybody
will probably be burning more wood than usual so keep an eye on that chimney.
Heat tape is another leading cause of residential fires. If your using heat
tape inspect it frequently and replace it if there are any problems. Be
sure to have it plugged into a properly rated circuit breaker or better
yet a ground fault interrupter. If in doubt call a licensed electrician.
Be careful with those natural Christmas trees. Make sure they don't get
frozen before you get them home and keep them well watered. We have had
to many tragedies in the past year; let's take a little care to get through
the next year safely.
Rich

Well don't forget about the Christmas party on Dec 18th at the Regency , it should be a great way to wind down another year. I'm going to be gone for most of January , so I'm going to try to put together a PJ party at the Chatnika lodge on Valentine's day. That will be a great excuse to get away and spend time with your honey , more to come, have a good Christmas, and a Happy New Years

Computers have diminished in price to the point where software is a large part of the cost. You can buy a desktop computer (less monitor & shipping) for $250.00 to $300.00. The rest of the cost is software. With the advent of Linux and the Open Software Foundation, you can outfit your computer with all the software you need for free and interesting enough, many of the software programs written for Linux have versions that run on Windows. I will attempt to review one cross platform software program in each copy of the newsletter so the windows users can sample what Linux software is like.
This month, lets have a little fun. LBReakout2 is a game modeled after Pong (anyone remember pong). For those of you that don't, there is a paddle that knocks a ball around, which is actually where the simularity ends. Your goal is to knock the many types of blocks off the screen. There are numerous levelsets, with may levels each. If ya get hooked, like I did, it becomes a real time eater.
One nice feature is the built-in editor, allowing you to create your own levelsets. Have fun.
