Members are encouraged to bring family and friends to help get the dye plot planted. Bring your gardening gear and rain gear or bug dope if needed. Consider helping throughout the summer to assist with the weeding.

During this last night of the weaving class, students will be presenting their work. They have some wonderful, inspirational surprises in store for you. They have produced several extra tapestries and now are working on final projects.

May 15, Thursday, 5:30 pm potluck reception, 7 pm lecture -- COLOR WORKS FOR EVERYONE: Public Lecture by Deb Menz
Location: Senior Center, 1424 Moore Street (directions in newsletter)
What to bring: A potluck dish to share. Note: We will be clearing up the meal in time to set-up for the public lecture at 7 pm.
Deb Menz - spinner, dyer and author from Middleton, Wisconsin -- is in Fairbanks teaching a workshop for the Guild on May 17 and 18. This 7 pm public lecture & slide presentation is about making color work for you in all mediums of your art work. It goes with her book "Color Works". The lecture covers some basic color theory, but distills what you need to know to a few basic guidelines. There will be many samples on display.

May 28, Wednesday, 5:30 pm or after work -- DYE GARDEN Cleanup and bed preparation
Location: The Georgeson Botanical Garden at UAF
Members, family and friend volunteers are need to come after work to help prepare the beds for planting. Bring gardening gear and rain gear if needed. Dye garden organizers are hoping for a big turnout on this and following Wednesday to both clean and plant. Weeders will also be needed throughout the summer.

What to Bring: A potluck dish to share and something for the White Elephant Gift Exchange. Also your membership dues if you haven't paid yet. Our membership year is April to March. You can pay for more than one year if you wish.
Come straight to Jodi's house after work for this informal annual meeting, election and gift exchange.
We still need someone to run for President this coming year. Here's you chance to get involved in the activities of the Guild.
April 3, Thursday, 12 to 3 pm -- 6 Week Daytime Weaving Course
Location: The Weaving Studio, Rm 219, Lathrop Bldg, 516 2nd Ave, held Tuesday and Thursday each week, April 3 to May 20..
Beginning weaving students will make a colorful sampler warp with a variety of threading/treadling patterns and an alpaca scarf warp designed from the sampler. Intermediate/Advanced students will do a shorter version of the Art 227 Woven Fabric Design VI: Fabric Experimentation. All levels of weaving and special topics can be accommodated in this course

March 15 & 16, Sat & Sun, Noon to 5pm -- ART EXPO
Location: Alaska Centennial Center for the Arts in Pioneer Park
Volunteers are needed to help at our table under the Umbrella for the Arts during this annual event. Help distribute info about the Guild, demonstrate weaving or spinning, and sell our fund raising items such as cards, hand towels & soap bags. Leave a message at the Weaving Studio (452-7737) if you can help.

The Weaving Studio rent has been raised so help making fund raising items will be appreciated -- Every little bit helps. Come down to the Studio on this weekend to weave a rug sample, make a warp, weave on a sampler to use for cards or cut cards for ART EXPO being held MARCH 15 – 16. The Guild always participates in the ART EXPO FUND RAISING EFFORT with our cards and any woven or felted items for Sale ($25 or less). So if everyone one would put on a warp and weave a small piece for the Guild Sales Table it would be wonderful.

Location: Pioneer Park, Alaska Centennial Center for the Arts
The Guild has applied for one of the craft tables at the Folkfest - an evening of free music on two stages that I believe is free. If you can help man the Guild table and perhaps bring something to demonstrate on, please call Penny at the Guild 452-7737.

The Georgeson Botanical Garden has a section devoted to flax. Come find out about the preparation, spinning and use of these fibers in making linen.
