Cost is $50 for the five classes.

This course will present basic sewing skills, terminology, equipment usage and notions that produce quality looking clothing. The goal is to share learning to sew and the pleasure and satisfaction of a well made garment.

This will be primarily a lecture class. You will be doing your sewing at home. This course is a prerequisite to other, more advanced sewing classes being taught at a later date by the instructor.

Techniques that will be covered include: --Grain line, --Blocking, --Zippers, --Mitered corner, --Pocket placement, --Straps, --Boxing, --Hand placement, --Sewing without pins, --Pressing, --Cracking seam, --Tools used to give that professional look.

When finished with this class you will have a fun tote bag that meets class requirements and the skills to make your own
handsewen styles.

First class -- bring sewing machine and learn the parts, how to care, and use of your machine. Sewing is fun when you know how.

This is the first step that will be followed with classes for clothes that fit. Watch for more info on future classes.

Materials for Class:
Recommended Text: The Bishop Method of Clothing Construction by Edna Bishop [out-of-print]
Sewing machine
Three ring binder
2 yards of firm fabric
Thread to match the fabric
7” or longer zipper to match fabric
2 yards of ½” cording

Oct 1, Class 1 -- Bring your sewing machine. Threading, cleaning and maintenance of the machine, needles, scissors, pins, point turner, zipper foot, hem gauge, beeswax, press cloth, different stitch lengths.
The required supplies for classes will be shown

Oct 6, Class 2 -- Fabric, grain, hands placement, pressing, ironing, grain perfection, controlling fabric

Oct 8, Class 3 -- Zipper, pockets, mitered corners,

Oct 13, Class 4 -- Stay stitching, under stitching, straps, grading seams,

Oct 15, Class 5 -- Boxing, Bishop Scarf, cording, review and completion.

Instructor Ruiz Anne Rozell has returned to teaching sewing. She taught classes at
the University of Alaska Fairbanks in the 70’s. In the past few years she has taken week long classes
from Lois Ericson, Sandra Betzina, Iryne McCoskey, and
with *Fabulous* Fit plus a weekend retreat at Nancy’s Notions.*
