Empty Bowls Project

In an effort to support our communities, potters throughout the nation donate bowls to their local Food Banks each year.  Funds from the sale of the bowls are used to support Food Bank operations.  The Fairbanks Community Food Bank conducts an auction, using the proceeds from the bowl sales to help with their activities in the community.  Fairbanks Potters Guild members participate in an annual Throw-A-Thon at which bowls are made for the Fairbanks Community Food Bank.  Check out the students at Hutchinson Career Center making bowls.

**The Guild provides an estimate of the number of donated bowls expected  each year. We would like to pose that question to the Guild membership and other potters who wish to participate in the event this year.  Please contact us if you are a potter and would like to donate bowls.

** The Fairbanks Potters Guild will provide standards for bowl donation, i.e. Bowls should hold approx. 2 cups, be simple and functional. "Art type" or special Bowls would be put out on the silent auction table.

** The Fairbanks Potters Guild will set up a number of tables.  The bowls on each table will be identified with a minimum suggested value.  Tables will range from a $5.00 table to a $25.00 table for example.  Some of our best pots will be auctioned by sealed bid during the sale.

** Each year we typically have simple refreshments such as coffee and tea as well as breads provided by the Food Bank.  Hopefully, we will expand our effort by offering a simple soup and bread meal with the purchase of a bowl for future events. We actually have all sorts of exciting ideas. The Food Bank Director is very excited to host the event because it gives them an opportunity to present their program and services to the public
