Description of the Project

The service Fairbanks Family Alternative will provide will be to interview youth offenders through Fairbanks Youth Facility and or Fairbanks Correctional Facility. Referrals would come from Fairbanks police Department, Youth Facility Councils, Lawyers, probation officers and families. After the client is referred Fairbanks Family Alternative will screen each client. After the screening process is over each client that was accepted will have to take an assessment test (living Skills Assessment). The test is approximately 4 hour long depending on the student. 231 comprehensive question. The outcome of the assessment tests will determine the clients weak points and strong points. So after we print out there test results and find out their weak points we'll work each student and the area they need the most help. After clearly stating what needs are to be worked on we will individually work with them or an a group setting under the topic the need most. The overview of Training for each session is as follows.

Basic Living Skills Format

After each client has completed their task, Fairbanks Family Alternative will introduce each client in a group setting a written outline of building trades and building standard/safety codes. Also a building official will speak to the group so they will understand the trades and standards. After that has been completed we will introduce the clients to Asbestos removal, this segment will teach the students the proper wear and take them through testing so they can acquire an Asbestos Abatement Certificate. The training course is approximately a 40 hour course. After successfully completing this course the clients / students will receive a State of Alaska Asbestos Certification Card. After they complete ad receive there card we will place them on an on - the - job - training project. for some on - the - job training. To receive instruction is one thing; it is another to approach a new prospective employer with confidence and say, "when I put my hands on the Tools on YOUR job, you will be please with the results". How can we, in a short term project, REALLY enable young people to grow to that level? By allowing them to experience, doing the real work. Then, all that has been told to them, will become more locked into their minds, in real understanding, because they will see it and do it, and call on the learning stored in their brains, while it is still fresh. This will be carried out on a project were only the direct participant wages will be applied.

After this phase of work / training has been completed we will start a job recruitment pool. The recruitment pool will consist of all general and sub-contractors that deals with Asbestos Abatement along with contractors that need general laborers.

Fairbanks Family Alternative will contract out the Basic Living Skills part of this proposal to J & L Services and the Asbestos Abatement Certificate Training and on - the - job training to Asbestos Academy Alaska.

Fairbanks Family Alternative's philosophy regarding the services they are providing is to equip, empower and train young people, so that they can effectively impact their neighborhoods and families for the rebuilding of their community from the inside out. We must understand the Juvenile Criminal mind set. The Mind must be restructure by change habits and eliminating thinking errors.
