Applications of Community Networks

World Wide Web Access, BBS Access - Ed, Govt, Health Care DB The system is the community - it is theirs, and they are responsible for content

Applications and Opportunities for Rural Telecommunications - Check out the Web Site

Inservice for school district, student mentorships, etc........

Most problems in the system are due to hormonal teen agers - they get a slap on the wrist - a temporary suspension - and entry into the mentorship program - teaching them how to be productive and positive towards the community learning concept.

Teleconferencing for distance learning, working with historic museum - these areas become public access sites.

Community network is described as a library. Is it public art? Can we do exhibits online and show the world what we do in Fairbanks? Writers, poets, and visual artists - get Kade involved (simple - no frames or Java)

It takes time to develop local partnership.

Travel, lodging, tourism and activities are a major source of sustainability......

Discussion on BBS about local economic development...........

Developing "spheres of interest" - for local and distant populations.

Using the community network to connect resources to schools.......

Can we become an economic incubator for local hardware, software, and technical retailers......

Once there is content, people want to get on board - then develop public access

Content is driven by public access, and vice versa......basic charges for accounts, subsidized accounts and classes.

Survey provides feeback, and pushes us in the right direction.

As we take on our own life........we need to develop sustainability........some fee based services.

Good to develop a relationship with all the ISPs

Economic development - Institute for Economic Development, University of Arkansas - staff of 30 - about 40 years old supporting state government

Training and workplace literacy programs - Many resources on the web pages - these were just sitting around their shop, so they decided to put them online.

Local grantwriters may get information from online and plug directly into grants, etc.
